But 'Days Like This' has a few really great songs!Petenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-660808341284783109.post-12589297091667545422011-03-24T19:20:24.025+03:002011-03-24T19:20:24.025+03:00I believe George was just beginning to get acquain...I believe George was just beginning to get acquainted with his work around 2005 when he was winding down the site. So unfortunately, it seems that we might never know George's thoughts on 'Inarticulate Speech Of The Heart' or 'Days Like This'.
Just as we may never savour his most intimate feelings on 'You Can't Do That On Stage Anymore Vol. 6' or 'Yes Live At Montreux 2003'. I know. Horrifying.

As for Man the Van, he's groovy! But man has he released a lot of albums. And I couldn't swear that a whole dozen of them aren't great either. Annoying!Anton Jnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-660808341284783109.post-76738393585994986792011-03-24T16:52:43.428+03:002011-03-24T16:52:43.428+03:00Your mention of Van Morrison is interesting, you d...Your mention of Van Morrison is interesting, you don't review any of his records in the whole old blog. You just never got around to it or not interested enough?Petenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-660808341284783109.post-24049379277708259812011-03-23T21:23:38.949+03:002011-03-23T21:23:38.949+03:00I thought you'd protest against the sound effe...I thought you'd protest against the sound effects.
They are pretty useless most of the time, even if I do, for some dorky reason, dig those four minutes of nothing but noise-making right in the middle (and I guess you don't hate it enough to let it ruin the record either).
Pretty much agree otherwise, and Al is such a charismatic guy he pulls off most everything. My favourite of the covers is definitely 'Western Union Man', perfect singing ("tell her that I've missed her for hours and hours" oooh!), perfect arrangement, and no spoiling sound effects (actually there are some telegraph sounds in the mix but they're hardly noticeable anyway).
And hey, what with this, Live Adventures, reissued versions of Super Session and BS&T's debut I now have 55 tracks or nearly 5 hours of music from Al Kooper recorded in 1968. Now I've just got to find me that Lost Concert Tapes from the Fillmore and then we can really bring up those Zappa references again.

Btw, I will jump to conclusions here and assume that your lack of dismay for 'Coloured Rain' means you've softened somewhat on Traffic's debut.

Oh oh, final note, dig that random 'I Want You' quote in 'Right Now For You'.Anton Jnoreply@blogger.com
